The purpose of the
Spring Hills Baptist Church Awana Program is to evangelize, disciple, and
train children and youth to serve Christ. Awana uses games, Handbook Time,
and Council Time to encourage the children and youth of our community to
memorize scripture, support missions, and learn Biblical truths to apply to
their daily lives. The Spring Hills Awana Program includes “clubs”
currently for ages older 2-yr olds through 6th grade. Each
club includes key elements of games and activities, scripture memorization
from the Bible, handbooks, and awards. Every year the Spring Hills Awana
program includes many special activities and events such as:
·
Visits
from missionaries
·
Special
theme nights (crazy hair, Bible-Character Dress-up, Two-by-Two Bring a
Friend, etc.)
·
Store
Nights (where clubbers spend Awana dollars they’ve earned)
·
Awana
Grand Prix (Pinewood Car Race)
·
CoCo Key
Water Resort at Cherry Valley Lodge Swim Night

Awana
at Spring Hills Baptist Church cannot be successful without awesome
spiritual leaders! We are still praying and seeking God’s will as we
fill a variety of roles for the 2007-2008 Club Year. Please, pray
about serving in this awesome ministry where “Kids
Matter to God.”
…”Let the little children come to me, and do
not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you
the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little
child will never enter it. And he took the children in his arms, put his
hands on them and blessed them.
Mark
10:14-16
Please, review the Leader Qualifications and Role Descriptions below. If you
feel Awana is a ministry area where you can serve, complete the “Volunteer
Form” available at the Awana Information Table at the back of the Sanctasium.
You may also contact Leslie Ewbank at (740)
344-7973 or Pastor Gary Kirkpatrick at 587-1200.
There
will be an Orientation/Prayer and Planning Session
on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at SHBC from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the
Sanctasium and Fireside Room.
LEADER QUALIFICATIONS
We all need to aspire to all the desirable characteristics outlined
below. Our goal must be to be an effective Christian leader. Evaluation of
oneself in relation to these traits is important. It will reveal areas where
prayer and work are needed in order to attain the Christian’s goal of
becoming an “approved worker.” An effective Awana leader will be:
-
A saved person with a consistent Christian testimony and
Godly walk (Ephesians 2:8-9)
who will be able to
graciously handle, guide, and work with girls and boys, other leaders, and
the administration of the local church.
-
A person with a burden and a vision
that many girls and
boys will trust Christ as Savior and become established in the Christian
faith.
3. A person with a youthful
attitude
4. A person who is patient and gentle, yet firm in
convictions
(II Tim. 2:24-25).
-
A person who is interested in others (Phil. 2:4).
-
A humble person who is willing to do anything for the
Lord (Acts 20:19).
-
A person who loves God’s Word and lives it(II Cor.
6:1-10).
