December 2006 Praise & Prayer

Praise the Lord

2006 has been a fruitful year of ministry for us.  Scores of young people trusted Christ as Savior as the Lord allowed us to visit their churches and present the gospel message.  We were able to speak with hundreds of Awana leaders for encouragement and training.  26 churches started new Awana clubs in Ohio representing thousands of children who will learn God’s Word, along with thousands of opportunities for local churches to reach families for Christ.

During December we were able to take a little time off to spend with family; Betsy & Brent came home from Oklahoma, plus we were in Columbus for a few days to celebrate the holidays.  Jud & Sara, along with our granddaughters Livvy & Amelia, were able to spend more time with us since they live so close.

Steve visited two clubs this past month to talk about being a missionary and to emphasize the real message of Christmas.  He was also invited to speak at the chapel services of a local Christian school.  Another church who recently remodeled their fellowship hall needed our help to put down a new game square, which we were glad to do.  A church in Brown county asked Steve to preach on a Sunday morning then stay for a lunch and training for their children’s workers.

Steve & our partner missionary in Ohio, Dean Birdsall, met with a group of pastors in Richland county to help them get started with a combined teen ministry in their community.  Together, these churches will be able to provide increased ministry and fellowship opportunities for their young people.

The first weekend of December we conducted our annual Christmas ministry team meeting, with 52 people in attendance.  We appreciate their faithfulness in serving across the state.

Pam serves as the Trek director at our home church, ministering to the junior high students.  This past month we took the group to a Living Christmas Tree concert at a church in Columbus, then out to eat at Bob Evans.  The week before Christmas we went caroling at a nursing home, then out for pizza.  We praise the Lord for the chance we have to make a difference in these young lives from inner city Dayton.

Pray With Us

Ai-Wang-Le means “Love, Hope, Joy” in Chinese, and these are the symbols being used for the Awana initiatives to reach that country for Christ.  Please pray for wisdom as God opens doors for this ministry.   www.AiWangLe.com

Pray for those churches who are staring new clubs in the New Year.  We expect around 4-6 groups to get started for the first time.

Event season starts in January as we offer Grand Prix races, Bible Quizzing, and Awana games across the state.  Each activity will draw unsaved family members as spectators, so pray for clear gospel presentations by the speakers.  More details are at our website, www.OhioAwana.org

Continue to pray for the leadership of AWANA Clubs International and for the missionary team here in Ohio as we serve the Lord in the upcoming year.  We want to be sure that everything we accomplish is a result of God working through us.

Spring Hills Baptist Church Awana

The purpose of the Spring Hills Baptist Church Awana program is to evangelize, challenge and train the youth of our community by providing Bible-based, Christ-centered weekly club programs.  The Spring Hills Awana program includes “clubs” currently for ages 3 through the 6th grade.  Each club includes the key elements of games and activities, Bible memorization, handbooks, and awards.  Every year the Spring Hills Awana program includes many special activities and events such as:

  • Visits from missionaries
  • Special theme nights (sports, Hawaiian, cowboy, wild hair, etc.)
  • Store nights (where clubbers spend Awana dollars they’ve earned)
  • Awana Grand Prix (pinewood car race)
  • Swim night

The Spring Hills Awana clubs meet September thru April on Wednesdays from 6:10 PM to 8:00 PM.

AWANA is an International program designed to support local churches to equip leaders and impact their communities with the gospel of grace in Christ. Our church is thus proud to be a partner with the Southern Ohio AWANA Missionary family: the Schenks - Steve and Pam. [email: awana@mics.net] They ask for prayer in the following ways: 1. That God will raise up qualified leaders in the hundreds of clubs throughout this region. 2. That God will also bring forth qualified Pastors to lead each Church congregation in the region - the person for the church!! 3. That in His time, each child and family exposed to the gospel of Christ will make a conscious decision to become a follower of Him and in so doing, reach out to others that they too may come to know Christ personally!!
