Personal: Dan was born
in Odessa, Texas, the son of Reverend and Mrs. Ennis Hill. He came to know
Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 6. At the age of 16, he
acknowledged a call to ministry from the Lord. His first wife passed away
after a two year illness with multiple sclerosis. He remarried in 1999. He
and Arlene have two married daughters, Melissa and Danya, and a son Joel,
age 5.
Education: Dan
received a Bachelor of Arts from Grand Canyon
University in Phoenix, Arizona in 1976. He
received a Master of Divinity from Golden
Gate Baptist Theological Seminary
in Mill Valley, California in 1981. He has also
completed post graduate work at Golden Gate
Baptist Theological Seminary and at
Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburgh, Indiana.
Ministry: Dan has
pastored nine churches in Arizona, California,
New Mexico, Washington and Wyoming. His last
four churches include First Baptist Church
of Fair Oaks, First Baptist Church of Albuquerque,
First Baptist Church of Bothell (now known
as Cross Pointe Church) and Cheyenne
Hills Church. While Dan was serving
as senior pastor of First Baptist Church
of Fair Oaks in Sacramento,
California, the church grew by 700 plus people. In
addition, the budget increased by 50
percent, three new staff positions were
established and two daughter churches were started. First Baptist Church
of Albuquerque is a historic downtown congregation
with 4,000 members. Under Dan’s leadership
this 150 year old congregation raised
3.5 million dollars to construct a new worship center.
The church gained national recognition for its
ministries of mercy to the poor and homeless, feeding
over 60,000 homeless people a year. He also served as
senior pastor at First Baptist Church, Bothell,
Washington, a suburb of Seattle. This church operated a
500 student, K-9th grade private school that
has received many accolades from the community.
Under Dan’s leadership, this church underwent a
lengthy process of Strategic Planning to clarify
the church’s vision and as a result of this plan the
church underwent a process of remodeling and
building new structures (including a café) to support the
vision of increasing opportunities to
cultivate relationships. The church has pioneered many
evangelism methods and programs in order to
reach out to the community. Some of the powerful
ministries in the church included Marriage
Mentoring, Divorce Recovery, Single Parenting
Classes, Celebrate Recovery, Widows Groups and
Grief Counseling.
The last church Dan
pastored was Cheyenne Hills Church in
Wyoming, consisting of800-1,000 people. The
mission of this church is to be a real, relevant
and relational church that builds the kingdom of
God by investing in others. Two years ago
the church launched a campaign to eliminate
the total indebtedness of the church and raised
more than $100,000 in thirty days to do so.
This church is also heavily invested in missions
at home and abroad, supporting full-time
missionaries and four new church plants, as well
as building a medical clinic and educational
facility in Africa and a community school in
Haiti.
